The Nuafraggio Island Story

One bright and sunny day, the Captain Randall Montague pulled his ship alongside the merchant ship Fair Skies.  Like most ships attacked by a pirate ship, this merchant ship was quick to follow orders.  Knowing it was outgunned and outmanned by the frigate of Buccaneers it lowered its sails and prepared to be boarded.  It also had a trick up its sleeve.  Around the small atoll hidden by a small volcano was the HMS Silver Spirit.  As the pirates boarded the vessel, inspecting the crewmates who were standing in file on the topdeck, one man ran for the only cannon the merchant ship had.  Opening the cannon window sure no one would see, the experienced marksman aimed at the Carribean Great White’s rudder.  Captain Randall stood above watching from the stern as his men began their search below for whatever goods this ship was stowing, when he saw the flap window open almost near the water.  He grabbed the nearest harpoon and shot it with great marksmanship.  Before the cannoneer could fire his paralysing shot, the harpoon dagger had shot trough the window, embedding itself and Montague had pulled with all his might on the lead rope pushing the barrel of the cannon slightly off target.  It all happened so fast that the veteran cannoneer had already lit the fuse when he the offset was caused.  The cannon stil fired.  It still hit the ship, causing a large hole in low in the side of the ship.

The second the cannon fired, Capt. Randall knew something was up and started yelling commands for his men to reboard the ship, immediately and had those shipmates already aboard the ship start raising the anchor.  Those who got aboard first started climbing the masts and riggings to set their sails again.  The senior cannoneer headed one of the small turret cannons on the top deck and aimed it at the merchant ships cannon door and disabled that cannon immediately.

Admiral Terrance MacGregor heard the cannon fire and knew it was his cue.  His clipper ship came speeding around the reef.  Whatever men were on the merchant ship were left behind.  Captain Montague pulled away as fast as he could.  He knew that his frigate was no match for the speedy clipper so he called Eustus Richards to the stern, and was given his command.

Eustus was the ships cook.  He was also a lowsy gambler but what he could do usually got him his money back.  Whenever they got to dock, he would find a new set of suckers who would bet him he couldn’t hold his breathe under water for however many minutes.  The suckers would just keep betting him longer times until they were out of money.  As such he was the designated ships deep sea diver.  His job at this time was to set a charge on the rudder of the clipper ship that would dissable it so that the C’ribbean Great White could head off in another direction and the Silver Spirit would keep heading the same direction.

This wasn’t a fool proof operation.  They knew there was no way to outspeed or outmaneouver so the Silver Spirit was going to get close and going to cause a lot of damage before Eustus could dissable their foe.  And so it was.  When the C’ribbean Great White turned south as the helpless Silver Spirit continued northward despite their best efforts, the ship was in great need of repair.  Its crew rushed to extinguish fires and one of the masts had broken off and was floating in the ocean.  Altogether it was unprepaired for that night when off in the distance the man in the crows nest saw and gulped with fear, lightning.  Fast approached a storm from the East.  And it was a hurricane.  Thankfully, they were out of the way of the true hurricane but on the outskirts they felt enough that almost tore their ship apart.  They counted it very lucky when they ran ashore on an uncharted island.

Although considered a mere captain by those who didn’t know him, his men considered him an admiral because he didn’t command but one ship but many ships.  He was rescued by another of his ships, but they realised that the place they found in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico or the Carribean Sea was a good location for their operations.  They fortified the island and made it secure and launched their pirating escapades therefrom.  As time went on, the Buccaneers found that Pirating wasn’t as profitable and found that their island had many natural resources which people were attracted to.  No, not coconuts or anything like that but sand.  Also, as pirates, privateers, and general merchants they began to find a love for cooking and food and so the island in the Carribean became a mecca for a fusion of flavours from all over from the imports that were at first stolen and later honestly purchased.
